Defragmenting the hard drive to improve performance

The Disk Defragmenter in Windows 7 is better than its predecessors and it's a good tool for improving system performance. How does it do it?
Well, you must realize that every time you save, change or move a file on your hard-drive, there's a good chance that the file won't be written in the same place, so you end up with the same file saved in different places. Then next time you open that file (which can be a document, mp3 or movie), your system will have a hard time opening it from several places. The Disk Defragmenter takes files and puts them in the same place, resulting in better response times from the system.
